A Special Visitor came today share
Today we welcomed a very special visitor to the school. Rachel Reid and her daughter Alanna came to the school to receive a cheque in the amount of €526 raised by the children on a sponsored jersey day before Christmas. Rachel and Alanna live in Knockraha and Alanna lives with a condition known as ‘epidermolysis bullosa’ or Butterfly skin syndrome. This is a painful genetic condition that means that Alanna must be covered from head to toe in surgical wraps to protect her delicate skin from blistering..a process that can take 3hrs at a time to change. Alanna was a joy to have in the school and the children were delighted to help in some small way to contribute to the charity that supports these children in Ireland.

This is only the second year that the school has participated in the Munster School’s Tennis Competition and last Friday the girls won the overall Cup Competition in Bishopstown Lawn Tennis Club. The girls played very well and the final came down to Super Doubles. This was a tense affair on court one in front of a large audience and our girls came out victorious in the end. Well done everyone !
Our Debaters are doing very well ! share
Thursday 25th May saw our debating team take part in the Semi-final of the Munster Schools debating competition. They had the difficult task of having to propose the motion that ‘Ireland cannot afford to send money abroad to charity’ The team made some brilliant arguments and rebuttals and in the end the result went Glounthaunes’ way by the narrowest of margins ! Well done Ms Murphy and all the children.
